During the 5th – 7th June 2006 National Forum that saw the setting up of the structure of the Southern Sudan National Network 15 organisations participated. Since then and with the robust growth of civil society in Southern Sudan, members continue to grow, especially at the grassroots.
Southern Sudan came into the RBC initiative during the 4th RBC Conference that was held in Gashamo in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia in 2003. It is during that conference that the delegates present proposed that the next conference would be held in Southern Sudan. During the 5th RBC Conference, many delegates from Southern Sudan participated. It is during this conference that the first RBC National Action Plan (NAP) for Southern Sudan came to be developed. Ever since, Southern Sudan organisations have played a key role in the initiative. From January 2005 till September 2006, NESI Network, a coalition of Southern Sudan CSOs and a partner of Oxfam Novib acted as the Regional Focal Point for the RBC activities. During that time it managed the project funds as well as providing administrative and logistical assistance that ensured the birth of the Regional Organisation on Resource Based Conflicts. |
