A dreadful accident occurred on the 30th July 2009 at Jid- Mohor well that is located amid the mountainous area of Al-miskaad east of Ufayn town, which is located between two nieghbouring sub-clans. Several people were killed and others injured. An eye witness who escaped to safety said that early that morning, a group of armed men stormed the area around the well and opened fire on every one around it indiscriminately,  leaving 5 dead and wounding another 3. All these killed or wounded belong to one clan, and were watering their livestock when the attack happened.

AfDB to Probe Ethiopian Dam Project

ADDIS ABABA, Tuesday

African Development Bank (AfDB) has accepted a call from environmental groups to investigate the alleged impact of Ethiopian huge hydro dam projects on Lake Turkana in Kenya.

AfDB's Compliance Review and Mediation unit announced its acceptance to review Ethiopian hydro dam project ahead of a financing deal with Ethiopian government.

The push for investigations comes from environmental groups including Friends of Lake Turkana and International Rivers.

The groups are demanding that AfDB conducts an independent inquiry to avert possible environmental and social impacts of the hydro dam project against communities near the lake. Read more...

 
Hague court redefines Sudan's Abyei boundaries

THE HAGUE, Wednesday (Reuters)

An international court redefined the eastern and western boundaries of the disputed oil-producing Abyei area claimed by both north and south Sudan, but left its northern border intact, in a ruling on Wednesday.

The borders of Abyei, often called the "Kashmir" of Sudan's north-south conflict and coveted by both sides, were outlined by an international panel after a 2005 peace agreement that ended more than 20 years of civil war between north and south Sudan.
